About

I am Professor of English and Director of the Master of Arts in Apologetics at Houston Baptist University. I teach in the Online MA program, focusing on cultural, imaginative, and literary apologetics. You can find more about the MA in Apologetics here.

My Ph.D. is in English, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I also hold an MA in English from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, an MA in Christian Apologetics from Biola University, and a BA in English from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

My research interests are primarily in Inklings studies, where I focus on the work of C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and J.R.R. Tolkien. I am the Charles Williams Subject Editor for the Journal of Inklings Studies, and I am currently working on a book about J.R.R. Tolkien’s modern sources. You can find more about my academic writing here.

I have also written a memoir: Not God’s Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms (Ignatius, 2014). You can find more details here.

You can follow me on Facebook or Twitter, and you can read my blog posts for HBU’s School of Christian Thought here, and for Transpositions (University of St Andrews, Scotland) here.
